Devlog #2 Protagonist, Assets, and Environment
Building off of the preliminary concept art I finally settled onto a solid design for the look, and feel of our Protagonist a young girl named Aase, who awakens in a mysterious cave with no idea where she is or how she got there. Going from there I started in on designing the initial starting area of the level a simple cave with rudimentary platforming to ease the player into the concept, as well I worked out the overall overview of the map to give myself the sense of scale I want.
Working forwards I started conceptualizing out the first real difficult platforming map design as the player begins the actual ascent of the giant. For now I am calling it the Scaffolding level where I will be using module scaffolding modules, and mechanics to design a truly engaging first steps to the climb that will be used to introduce the player to more complex platforming which will include levers, moving platforms, seesaw platforms, and the like.
Finally as a bit of a side piece to tie everything in together I settled on a rough overall palette design consisting of mainly cool colors to create that wintery environment, but as well a light dash of oranges to balance it all out.
